Child Protective Services are available to help children achieve safety,
well-being, and permanency.

TCJFS recognizes that families play an important role in ensuring their children’s safety
and well-being. Families who know they are in need of services to help keep their children
safe should contact TCJFS for information on what help is available.

In addition, Placement staff can provide information and referral services for persons with
questions about adoption, birth parent search, and supportive services for adoptive
families.

If you suspect a child is being abused or neglected, call TCJFS at
330-339-7791 ext. 245, or ext. 204.

After business hours and on weekends, contact the Tuscarawas
County Sheriff at 330-339-2000.

Please be ready to supply the following information, if available, when making a
report of suspected abuse or neglect:
•        Your name and phone number (if a mandated reporter)
•        The child’s family’s name and address
•        The non-custodial parent’s name and address
•        Name(s) of the child(ren) in the home
•        Date(s) of birth of each child in the home
•        School(s) and grade(s) of each child in the home
•        School attendance, grades, and behaviors of the child(ren)
•        Why you suspect abuse and/or neglect
•  The Protective Services Unit receives referrals of child abuse and
neglect.  Reports of abuse and neglect are investigated. An Alternative
Response approach is used whenever possible to involve the families in the
decision-making process to help safely keep children and families together.

•  Two Case Management Units are staffed with Case Managers who work
with families   of children identified at high risk for abuse and/or neglect. A
case manager is assigned to each family and together they develop a case
plan which identifies the steps needed to be taken by the family in order to
reduce the risk of harm to their child. The primary goal is that each child may
be able to live in a safe, stable and permanent environment which allows for
his/her healthy growth and development.

•  The Placement Unit helps develop qualified individuals and families to
become certified foster/adoptive parents through recruitment, training, and
the completion of home studies. When children cannot remain with their
birth families, and when no kin are available to care for the children, the
Placement staff work to find the best substitute placement for children based
on the unique needs of each child.
